History of Chuck E Cheese´s

Updated: Jun 30, 2022

Chuck E. Cheese's was founded in 1977 by fellow Atari founder Nolan Bushnell under the name "Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre". It was officially the first family restaurant to integrate food, animated entertainment and an indoor arcade.

You can see a commercial of Chuck E Cheese's Pizza Time Theater on our YouTube channel, we leave it below.

In 1984 Pizza Time Theater and Showbiz Pizza Place merged, uniting both concepts under the name "Showbiz Pizza Time, Inc."

Between 1991 and 1992, Showbiz Pizza Time, Inc. combined both brands under the name "Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza".

In 1994, Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza had a rebranding, taking simply the "Chuck E. Cheese's" name.

By 1998, Showbiz Pizza Time, Inc. was renamed as CEC Entertainment, Inc., removing all mention of Showbiz Pizza Place.

In 2012, it opened its first restaurant in Monterrey, Mexico.

Finally, the company uses the mouse Charles to represent them, however, his story is far from adorable and playful. You can see the story of this mouse here.

As an interesting fact, currently the branches charge entrance fees and children can circulate and play freely, since no minor can enter or leave without being accompanied by the adult with whom they entered the place, thanks to a security system known as “ Kid Check”.
