The Noid was the advertising character for Domino's pizza. It was created in 1986 by Group 243, Domino's Pizza's registered advertising agency, later the same agency hired Will Vinton Studios to sketch the Noid and animate the commercials.
The character design was chosen by Christopher and Brian Baker, sons of Scott Baker, the lead franchisor for the European market at the time.
On the other hand, the commercials that presented the character used the slogan "Avoid the Noid".
In 1988, CBS planned a Saturday morning cartoon series called "The Noids," but the series was scrapped due to complaints that it was merely a publicity stunt and not a children's show.
A year later, in 1989, as part of the advertising campaign, a computer game called Avoid the Noid was released. The objective of this was to deliver a pizza within a limit of half an hour in an apartment building full of Noids, in which some of these characters were armed with missiles to search for pizza or water balloons. The common version is 1.0, it has CGA graphics and PC speaker sound effects, although there is also version 1.1 which added support for EGA graphics and Ad lib music.
For 1990, Capcom released a different video game, Yo! Noid, for the NES; In this game, there were wild characters led by Mr. Green who were on the loose in New York City. At this, the Mayor of New York decided to call The Noid to stop his evil doppelganger, save everyone and give him a massive pizza reward.
Finally, Domino's returned the Noid as an advertising figure in December 2009 after 14 years of disappearance, his return had a limited edition of 1000 t-shirts with his design.
Later, on May 4, 2011, the Noid was used in a campaign on his Facebook page and made a brief appearance as a stuffed animal at the end of a commercial from the same month, promoting a single-ingredient pizza deal, in addition, this same year The noid turned 25 years old and was celebrated with the video game “The Noid's Super Pizza Shootout”, being a tribute to the video game "Avoid the Noid".
Subsequently, in June 2016, Spooky Pinball LLC announced the release of their new licensed pinball machine called "Domino's Spectacular Pinball Adventure" which features an appearance by The Noid. In addition, in this same year he appeared and was mentioned in some Domino's commercials, as part of their "Pizza Payback" campaign in the United States.
A year later, in 2017, the sequel to Yo! Noid for the 2017 New Jam City game called Yo! Noid 2: Enter the void. Similarly this year he had a brief appearance in the background of a Domino's ad.
In February 2020, the word "NOID" could be seen printed on a stop sign in the background of a Domino's advertising campaign, which was mainly aimed at showing the new GPS notifications with mobile orders.
Finally, The Noid has had appearances in series and movies such as Family guy, the Simpsons, 30 rock, the goldbergs, Ninja Turtles and in a segment of Michael Jackson: Moonwalker
